MAREK'S DISEASE VACCINE, LIVE, I.P. (VET.):
Live, attenuated, freeze-dried, 'HVT' Strain.
Marek's disease is a lymphoproliferative disease of chickens characterized by presence of lymphoid tumours of a yellow / white colour in various organs of e.g. liver, spleen, kidneys, ovary, lungs, heart, muscles and sciatic and bronchial nerves etc.
Chicks upto one-week age are more susceptible to Marek's disease than the older ones. It can cause heavy mortality ranging from 10% to 40% starting from 8 weeks to 20 weeks. The mortality rate becomes less in older birds. It causes heavy losses in broilers since the affected birds do not put on weight. Disease is transmitted by oral and respiratory routes mainly through dander from feather follicles of M.D. affected birds, dust and litter.
Marek's Disease ('HVT' Strain) vaccine is being manufactured in S.P.F. chicken embryo fibroblast cultures from the Turkey Herpes virus FC-126 strain. This strain confers high-grade immunity (95% protection) in vaccinated chicks. Each dose of vaccine contains ≥103 P.F.U of virus per dose.
