ORAL POLIO VACCINE (I.P.) :

Oral Polio is a serious but preventable disease. In India, hundreds and thousands of infants & children used to contract Polio, some of whom suffer from its serious consequences mainly paralysis.

Bio-Med earned pride of starting its Human Vaccine Division with Oral Polio Vaccine in 1995. Polio vaccine is manufactured from bulk imported from WHO certified company. Bio-Med's Vaccine is included in Pulse Polio Programme conducted by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare under Extended Program of Immunization (EPI). This has led Bio-Med name in the frontiers of Human Vaccine manufacturers in India.

DESCRIPTION :
Bio-Med's Oral Polio Vaccine is prepared using attenuated Sabin Strain Polio viruses. The vaccine is clear light pink in liquid form and light pale yellow in frozen form. Bio-Med's Oral Polio Vaccine conforms to Indian Pharmacopoeia.

INDICATIONS :

  • It is indicated for active immunization against poliomyelitis virus.
  • Infants should receive atleast three doses of OPV at minimum interval of 3-4 weeks starting from 10 days of birth.
  • Normally adults are not susceptible to poliomyelitis. However the vaccine can be given to persons of any age who have not suffered from poliomyelitis and have not been vaccinated.

CONTRA- INDICATION :

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION :
2 drops (0.1 ml) of the vaccine is administered orally to small child starting from 10 days of birth. and is given 3 times at an interval of 1-2 months .

CONTRA- INDICATION :
Oral Polio vaccine is not recommended for administration in case the child is suffering from acute febrile illness, diarrhoea, dysentry or any debilitating disease. Patient under steroid therapy should not be vaccinated. Patient suffering from leukemia, dysgammaglobulinemia or other malignant tumors should not be given Oral Polio Vaccine.

STORAGE :
The vaccine must be stored at -200C or below under frozen state for long term storage upto 2 years. When the vaccine is thawed ( liquid form), it must be kept in refrigerator at 20C to 80C. Vaccine if stored at 20C to 80C shall remain good for only 4-6 months.
